No Excuses University

We are thrilled to be a member of the No Excuses University Network. To earn membership into this prestigious network of “like-minded” schools, our staff, students and parents completed an extensive online application focused on the “Six Exceptional Systems” based on the No Excuses University model. Monte Vista now is part of a growing No Excuses Network of Schools across the country.

Monte Vista Elementary staff, students and parents transformed our school community by implementing a No Excuses philosophy and a culture of college readiness.  Students in grades preschool through fifth grade participate in college related activities. Vista Unified strives to be the model of educational excellence and innovation and Monte Vista wants to be the model of educational excellence and innovation for the No Excuses Network of of schools.

In 2004, Damen Lopez founded the No Excuses University Network of Schools in San Diego, California. This endeavor helps to build a bridge for all students to attend college as it begins promoting a comprehensive college readiness model starting in pre-kindergarten. We believe all children deserve the opportunity to be educated in a way that prepares them for college if they so choose to attend. We believe all children can be academically successful and we believe we have the POWER to make this dream a reality.

Statics show that children from many households have low expectations for attending higher education. Monte Vista Elementary School is taking the challenge to change that predisposition.

No Excuses University believes that every child deserves the opportunity to be educated in a way that prepares them for college. When schools exhibit a culture of universal achievement by believing in students, they collaborate around that belief. During collaboration, they align their standards as a team.  As teams align standards, they need to assess the standards and manage the data.  Then, and only then, can they pursue meaningful interventions with their students.
